Lockhart Campus Stevenston is a cutting-edge Additional Support Needs school and a Respite facility for children and young people across North Ayrshire.

The project was notable for the extensive use of technology, creating a highly energy-efficient building, using heat recovery, biomass heating and natural and low-energy LED lighting. It also utilised technological solutions to create a safe an inclusive environment for students with a variety of needs, ranging from specialist sensory spaces to bespoke security arrangements.

Four existing schools have been replaced with a single modern campus that delivers inclusive education opportunities for students together with integrated respite buildings that keep families connected, as well as residential facilities that meet severe and complex needs.

The educational buildings provide a unique learning and living environment and fully accessible facilities for 200 children and young people from the early stages to the senior phase. As well as sensory spaces the campus includes a swimming pool, a hydrotherapy pool and enhanced outdoor learning spaces.

Lockhart Campus is the only facility in Scotland with these kind of resources amalgamated on one site and is not only a real asset to the local communities but will also make a huge difference to many families from across the region. Michael Ross Chief Executive, Hub South West
