The £13m HALO Enterprise and Innovation Centre (HEIC) project is 46,000 sqft of office space, over four floors, which was constructed by Morrison Construction over a 23-acre site next to the new Ayrshire College Campus and Kilmarnock train station.

The HEIC intends to provide space for entrepreneurs to create and grow digital and cyber businesses, with the aid of training and research facilities. These facilities were constructed around key user communities in specific industry sectors where the introduction of modern digital technologies is beginning to impact the workforce in ways that has not been seen before.

With sustainability at its core, the facility has a number of many innovative features that resulted in it achieving BREEAM ‘Excellent’ Accreditation. Hydro boxes were installed throughout the welfare facilities to provide air-to-water connection to VRV Heat Recovery, while Photo Voltaic (PV) panels to capture and store energy to power the building.

As one of the first sustainable, state-of-the-art buildings powered by renewable energy, with a low-carbon output in Scotland, the HEIC was recognised for the Regeneration Project of the Year at the Scottish Property Awards for its excellent environmental credentials.
