Morrison Construction Building Central has formally handed over the new Letham Mains Primary School in Haddington to East Lothian Council.
The £8.6m school has been built in response to the development of new housing in Letham Mains, with pupils due to move in from their temporary home sharing Haddington Primary School in February, subject to the lifting of current Covid-19 restrictions.
The new school has 14 classrooms, an early learning and childcare centre, a dining hall, dance space and a two-court PE hall with retractable seating for performance and community use. The external areas have been designed for outdoor learning, PE and play.
The site is just a short distance away from the East Lothian Community Hospital, completed by Morrison Construction last year.
Letham Mains Primary School Headteacher Bruce Murray said: “We realise just how fortunate we are to be in the position of taking possession of a brand-new school. Our pupils, parents and staff have closely followed the building’s progress over the year and we are very excited to be transitioning over. It will be an amazing resource to have and we look forward to embedding the school in the community and growing the Letham Mains ‘family’.”
