Morrison Construction, working in partnership with Renfrewshire Council and West College Scotland delivered a major traditional building skills practical event, as part of the Paisley Town hall Refurbishment project.
With an aim to inspire students to take traditional careers in construction, 13 schools across Renfrewshire including Paisley Grammar School, Linwood High School and Mary Russell School were invited to the two-day event, with a footfall of 200 students who attended.
The event began with a health and safety talk to students fully equipped in PPE, as well as a talk from Renfrewshire Council regarding opportunities with them for Modern Apprenticeships and West College Scotland, who discussed their foundation apprenticeship offerings and vocational courses in more detail.
Practical workshops were in full swing from; woodturning, leadwork, painting and slating while Morrison Construction delivered an in-depth tour of their current Paisley Town Hall project and shared opportunities available for wider careers.
David Ewing, Managing Director of Morrison Construction Building Central commented “Morrison Construction were delighted to work in Partnership with Renfrewshire council and West College Scotland to organise the traditional building skills event. We hope that by using the Paisley Town Hall site as a learning tool at this event, it would encourage pupils in Renfrewshire to consider a career in construction and highlight the opportunities within Morrison Construction, our supply chain and the wider industry.”
