Morrison Construction’s Be Well programme has been the recipient of industry recognition, claiming two awards in one week, at the Inspire Awards and the Employee Benefit Awards.
The Be Well programme, which incorporates parent group Galliford Try's partnership with the Mates in Mind charity, is a suite of initiatives aimed at improving the physical and mental wellbeing of the company’s employees.
It has received particular plaudits for its approach to mental health, winning ‘Most Inspiring Mental Health Initiative’ at the Inspire Awards and ‘Best Mental Health Strategy’ at the Employee Benefit Awards.
The programme has already seen more than 700 employees and supply chain members receive training in mental health awareness with considerable progress already made to reach our target for 1,000 conversations this year.
David White, Group Health, Safety & Sustainability Director, said: "This recognition is a great achievement for our business. For too long issues surrounding mental health have not been openly discussed. We're changing this culture with trained mental health first aiders as well as training our managers, employees and supply chain and encouraging people to discuss matters which are concerning them and to look out for their co-workers.
"Construction workers often work long hours, frequently away from their home, friends and family. With unacceptable levels of suicide within the industry, Galliford Try is creating an inclusive workplace where it is OK to open up and discuss these important issues that affect us all. These awards are vitally important to raise standards and reflect the growing awareness of mental health in our industry."
