Students from East Craigs Primary School took part in a health and safety competition organised by Morrison Construction Building Central and JSL Services at the Maybury Primary School site.

Children from the P1-P7 classes at East Craigs, near Edinburgh, were tasked with creating the best safety poster to be used on the Maybury site, after spending time watching site safety training videos.

Members from Morrison Construction Building Central’s Communities and Social Impact team then picked a first, second, and third place from each year group and displayed their posters across the site. In addition to this, the winners also received prizes from JSL, including sweets and Amazon vouchers.

Deborah Lindsay, JSL’s Managing Director said: “Both myself and my staff were extremely impressed with the high standard of warning board designs drawn and submitted by the pupils from East Craig’s Primary School; it is very clear they all watched the construction site safety video and took on board the safety messages.  Thank you so much to the class teachers for helping us to raise awareness of this important issue.

“Sadly, too many children can be tempted to climb a gate or fence or even venture in between insecure fencing panels to access dangerous construction sites, but we hope that our joint safety video and competition with Morrison Construction will help to keep every pupil at East Craig’s Primary School safe this summer and beyond.”

Jim Johnstone, Head of Communities and Social Impact for Morrison Construction Building Central, commented: “We had a fantastic day at the Maybury site with JSL Services and the students and staff from East Craigs Primary School.

“Everyone had a great time watching the children design their posters and it was extremely difficult to choose a winner. I hope this experience will show the young students the importance of being safe around construction sites.”
