Morrison Construction Building Central’s Communities and Social Impact team have demonstrated their commitment to investing in local community projects, with a major £12,000 donation to Edinburgh Community Food (ECF) to purchase a Food Education Van.
Morrison are working alongside ECF as part of their commitment to the local community through the Maybury Primary School project with City of Edinburgh Council.
ECF work to tackle health inequalities in low-income communities in Edinburgh through their food and health development and promotion work, including cooking and nutrition courses, health information presentations and delivery of Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland accredited courses.
The social enterprise also sources and sells quality fruit and vegetables to Edinburgh’s hospitals and schools, as well as homes and businesses, with all profits being immediately invested back into the charity.
Brenda Black, Chief Executive Officer for ECF, commented: “Everyone at Edinburgh Community Food would like to express our sincere gratitude for the extremely kind donation from Morrison Construction.
“This money will help us provide an inspiring mobile food resource for vulnerable families across Edinburgh. As a priority, families supported by the Discover! programme (out of school term time food and activity provision) will benefit from a local resource that supports their attainment and aspirational needs for a healthier future.”
Jim Johnstone, Head of Communities & Social Impact for Morrison Construction Building Central, commented: “ECF is a fantastic charity that promotes a healthy lifestyle and healthy eating across the city, and I am pleased to see that our donation will go a long way in helping them to achieve their aims and improve wellbeing across local communities.”
