Morrison Construction Building Central’s Calderwood Primary School project has received its official opening by West Lothian Council.

The Leader of West Lothain Council Lawrence Fitzpatrick was the guest of honour at the event to mark the opening of the state-of-the-art primary school, which was delivered through Hub South East to serve a new community being created by major housing developments in East Calder.

A special plaque was unveiled to mark the ceremony by Cllr Fitzpatrick, with music provided by the Calderwood school choir. The £14.3m school was handed over by the business in September last year, ahead of schedule, having begun at the start of the pandemic in February 2020.

Councillor Lawrence Fitzpatrick said: “It’s a great honour to be invited here to officially open the stunning new Calderwood Primary School.

“You can already see this superb new building is providing the foundations for a fantastic new school community, where our children can start the journey to achieve their potential.

“Thanks to all the children and staff at Calderwood for welcoming us to the school for this special occasion.”

Calderwood Headteacher Sarah Burton added: “It was a wonderful experience for our children to take part in the official opening ceremony for our amazing new Calderwood Primary School.

“It’s created a real buzz of excitement around the school, and gives us a great opportunity to showcase both our superb school and all the inspiring learning experiences taking place with our young learners.”

Eddie Robertson, Managing Director for Morrison Construction Building Central, commented: “It’s fantastic to see Calderwood primary receive its official opening so that all the stakeholders can celebrate the fantastic success the project has become. Our partnerships with West Lothian and Hub South East has seen us create some exceptional educational spaces over the past six years, and Calderwood is right up there among the best of them.”
