Morrison Construction has celebrated the successful reopening of Bucksburn Swimming Pool following the completion of a £2.5m refurbishment delivered on behalf of Aberdeen City Council.
The popular community facility officially reopened on 29 June, with Olympic swimmer Hannah Miley joining local residents, schools, community groups and representatives from Aberdeen City Council and Sport Aberdeen to celebrate the transformation of the pool into a modern, more accessible and energy-efficient facility.
The refurbishment included extensive internal upgrades, a new roof, a new air handling unit enclosure and improvements to the building's mechanical and electrical systems, extending the life of the facility while enhancing sustainability and the visitor experience.
Alongside the refurbishment, the project team was committed to creating a lasting legacy through education, volunteering, environmental initiatives and charitable support.
Pupils from Brimmond Primary School created artwork inspired by Our Environment, now displayed as a feature mural in the swimming pool foyer, while students from Bucksburn Academy produced artwork celebrating Aberdeen's landscapes, architecture and sporting heritage.
Through Morrison Construction's Roadshow initiative and environmental workshops at local primary schools, the project introduced young people to careers in construction and encouraged greater awareness of sustainability. The wider social value programme also delivered 959 volunteering hours, 85 apprenticeship weeks and support for local charities, youth organisations and community groups.
Mike Bruce, Managing Director for Morrison Construction North East, said: "At Morrison Construction, we believe every project should leave a legacy beyond the completed building. The refurbishment of Bucksburn Swimming Pool has provided a fantastic opportunity to work alongside local schools, community organisations and charities to create meaningful social value that will benefit people for years to come.
"From inspiring the next generation through careers engagement to supporting environmental awareness, volunteering and celebrating local creativity, every activity has helped strengthen connections within the community. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making these initiatives such a success."
