Morrison Construction is constructing a five mile (8 km) extension to the M74 as part of the Interlink M74 Joint Venture, together with its equal joint venture partners Balfour Beatty, Morgan Est and Sir Robert McAlpine.
The extension will link the M74 from where it currently ends, at Fullarton Road Junction near Carmyle, to the M8 just west of the Kingston Bridge.
Other principal works are the conversion of hard shoulders on the existing M8 and M77 with widening and relining, construction of new side roads and slip roads, ancillary structures including sign gantries, retaining walls, police observation platforms, accommodation works, traffic management, landscaping and environmental mitigation works, CCTV and communications infrastructure, pedestrian/cycleway facilities and road lighting.
In addition, the works include motorway communications with variable message signs, traffic signage, road markings, treatment of contaminated land, minework consolidation, carriageway drainage, demolition, site clearance of vacant properties and all other associated works.
