Green Knowes Wind Farm

Location: Perth
The project comprises design and construction of civil and electrical infrastructure for an 18 turbine, 27MW wind farm near Perth.
The works included operation of two on-site borrow pits; 6km of unsurfaced access track; turbine bases hardstandings for a 400 tonne erection crane; all MV, LV and SCADA cabling and a control building.
The site topography presented a challenge in climbing from 200m at the public road junction to the hill-top at 450m within a distance of 2km, whilst limiting track gradients to a maximum of 14%.
Due to the topography and extent of earthworks at the site entrance, an elaborate system of settlement ponds were constructed as temporary works at the foot of the hill.
