Laurencekirk Station

Client: Network Rail
Value: £3.2 million
Location: Laurencekirk

Laurencekirk station in north east Scotland has opened to passengers following completion of a project to bring the station back into service more than 40 years after it was closed. Morrison Construction was awarded the design and build contract that included the refurbishment and restoration of the Grade B listed station building to its original 1856 design, but with modern facilities; a new accessible footbridge; two new platforms and installation of customer information systems.

Extensive conservation was carried out during the works, with wood salvaged from the original station used to restore the former glory of the waiting room, British Rail posters reclaimed from the derelict building in addition to period fireplaces that are in keeping with the features.

Laurencekirk station provides a direct public transport service with 11 services northbound and 10 services southbound daily during the week and it is expected that 36,000 people will use the station each year.
